We recently spent a quiet weekend at Inness, a 220-acre retreat in the Hudson Valley. What struck me most about the landscape during this outing was the spring foliage, with many shades of yellows, greens, and browns. “Spring watching” is usually fixated on the first blossoms and full blooms. But provided the vantage point to take in a wider view, I found the changing spring colors and textures as interesting to behold as fiery fall foliage, even if they’re objectively more subdued.
We had been hoping for sun but the non-stop rain, clouds, and fog encapsulated the weekend in an extra special mood. We stayed in a cabin and ate two (great) meals at the restaurant on site (which is in a bigger cabin up a hill, with lovely attention to detail in the interiors and framing of views). Our actual favorite meal though was at the nearby brewery and distillery Arrowood Farms, where we had fantastic burgers and fries (plus an excellent beer for Jason).
